Our Mission

To provide our parish families with the support they need to integrate into our parish community and to assist them in raising their children in the Catholic faith.

Welcome!

Thank you to everyone who made last year’s program such a success!

Since everything seemed to work out last year, we will continue the same basic program for next year with only one significant change:

We are moving our confirmations to 7th grade!!!

This means we will be confirming both 7th- and 8th-graders this year.

Parents Night for New Families

We will be having a parents night on Thursday, Sept 17th at 7pm in the church to explain the program to our new families. If you are returning from last year, you are welcome to attend also, but it is not necessary.

Our Program

Instead of trying to force everyone into a one-size-fits-all box, we will be offering a variety of activities and leaving it up to you to decide which of these best suit your family’s needs and interests. Other than a few mandatory events for our first communion and confirmation candidates, you are free to participate in as many of these activities as you wish.

Mass

By far, the most important part of any Faith Formation program is the regular attendance at Sunday Mass. This is the only part of our program that is absolutely mandatory. This is important not only for the children, but for the entire family as well. Everything we are doing in our Faith Formation program is built on the foundation of regular Mass attendance.

Family Program – Grades 0-5

Our family program will meet one Sunday each month from 8:45–10:15 in the school. We will begin each session in the gym with prayer and some time with Fr Josef. Then we will break out into family groups for discussion and activities focusing on Christian family life.

This program is for the entire family, not just the children. If you are interested in participating, simply come to our first meeting on September 27.

The dates for our family program this year will be:

• October 25
• November 22
• December 20
• January 24
• February 28
• March (Easter Break)
• April 4
• May 2

Middle School Program – Grades 6-8

Our middle school program will be at the same time and on the same Sundays as the family program.

The students will meet in groups (without the parents) and will be led by a volunteer.

We will focus on helping the children take ownership of their faith life and learn what it means to be a disciple of Jesus Christ.

If you are interested in participating, simply come to our first meeting on September 27.

Online Catechesis

For an at-home, self-guided deep dive into the teachings of the Catholic faith, we will be using the Faith and Life series from My Catholic Faith Delivered.

Sacramental Preparation

We will be preparing our 2nd graders for First Communion and our 7th and 8th graders for Confirmation. Please see the First Communion and Confirmation info sheets for details.

Community Building & Service

Throughout the year, we will be offering opportunities for the family to integrate into our parish life through community building events and service projects. Activities will include:

• Advent – Trees of Joy
• December 5 – Christmas around the World
• December 5 – Christmas Pageant
• December 20 – Christmas Caroling
• Lent – 40 Days 40 Items
• Lent – Mite Boxes
• March 1-4 – Children’s Stations of the Cross
• March 28 – Easter Egg Hunt
• May 2 – May Crowning & End of the Year Picnic
• May 20-23 – Feast by the Shore
• First Saturdays – Sandwich making for Outreach
• TBD – Children’s Choir

First Communion Info

Program

Baptismal Certificates

Please bring a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate to the parents night, or send it by email, or drop it off at the office as soon as possible.

If your child is not yet baptized, please let us know so that we can arrange a baptism for them.

Confirmation Info

Program

To prepare your child for Confirmation, please participate in as much of our Faith Formation program as you wish.
In addition, please plan on attending the events listed below.

The children do not need to attend the Parents Night, but they are welcome. All of these events are in the church.

We will let you know the date of the Confirmation Ceremony as soon as we are given one by the bishop (we usually don’t find out until January or February).

We are requesting the end of May or the beginning of June. We will probably need two ceremonies this year.

• Daily Mass is celebrated at 8 am Monday through Friday and 9 am on Saturday.
• Sunday Mass: Vigil Mass Saturday at 4 PM; Sunday at 8:00 AM and 10:30 AM
• Notes: The sick or vulnerable due to age or health conditions are encouraged to remain at home. Those unable to attend in person may view our Streamed Masses (see below).

All Sunday, Daily and Holy Day Masses are celebrated
in the church building.

In the Gospel, we hear Simeon say to Mary: “… your own soul shall be pierced with a sword—so that the thoughts of many hearts may be laid bare.” Your generosity enables the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to bring hope to parents whose hearts are burdened with worries and concerns.

We help people!

Meets on the third Wednesday of every month at 7:30 pm in the church narthex.  To give thanks for all that God has given to you, have you considered answering the call to help serve the poor by joining the St. Vincent de Paul Society? Call 516-676-0676 x124 for details.

In a spirit of justice, charity and personal involvement, the St. Vincent De Paul Society seeks to provide aid and comfort to the poor, the afflicted and the lonely.  Members of the Society make personal home visits; provide advocacy and support usually in the form of food vouchers, financial assistance, clothing and furniture.  (Training provided.)

“Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread”.  When we pray the Our Father, we ask God to provide our food and necessities. The majority of us receive sufficient food. Others do not. We can be our Father’s instrument by providing “bread” for the needy, particularly during these difficult times. You do this by your contributions to the St. Vincent de Paul Society

Thanks to all who contribute to our St. Boniface St. Vincent de Paul Conference. We were able to help many of our neighbors. Some people had no money for food, others no beds – they were sleeping on the floor – or there was no heat or electricity!

At the Heart of the Vincentian Ministry is the “home visit”

by pairs of Vincentians, not as invasive bureaucrats, but rather caring representatives of Christ’s love, through the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. There is reciprocity, mutuality, in the service of Vincentians through the home visit that transforms the help from something that may have been humiliating into something that is honorable. The Vincentians performed approximately 915 hours in service to those neighbors during the last fiscal year.

The Society initially was started at St. Boniface when parishioners formed a conference in 1934. The “home visit”, unique to the ministry and character of the Society, provides an opportunity for the deprived to communicate their individual needs with dignity in the comfort of their homes, and for the Vincentian visitors to analyze and respond to those identified needs.  The Society respects their privacy and all information is kept confidential.

Sometimes the most appreciated benefit conveyed by the Vincentians is the fact that they cared enough to visit the needy and forgotten, regardless of race or religious belief.
